Patricia Vicari: I am a Torontonian, born and bred. I began to paint and draw at about age three (my grandfather taught me first) and attended Arthur Lismer’ s Gallery School at about age 10. Albert Frank was another early teacher. I always wanted to be an artist, but I also loved literature, and was rather enamoured of the idea of earning a living, so I deviated into becoming an English professor, keeping up art on the side. I managed to retire a bit early from my position at the U. of T. to devote myself to art a little more than a decade ago, and since then have studied at the Toronto School of Art, the Haliburton School of the Arts, and with various teachers, such as Mark Thurman, Barry Coombs, Margaret Roseman, D.D.Gadjansky, and others, attending workshops and courses as seemed feasible. I have exhibited in various places and had two solo and three partnered exhibitions in Toronto. I have two children, neither an artist, but both earnest supporters.
